If a representative will handle your Egyptian trademark application, organize the authorization before arranging signatures or sending original documents. The purpose is to ensure that the applicant’s details and the representative’s authority are clear and consistent throughout the file.
Why the power of attorney matters
Article 71 of the implementing regulations provides for filing by the person concerned or a representative under a special power of attorney. Article 72 refers to an authenticated power of attorney when an agent files and Arabic translations of foreign-language documents. See the implementing regulations in WIPO Lex.
Do not assume an apostille is sufficient for Egypt
Egypt is not listed as a contracting party in the HCCH Apostille Convention status table, checked on 14 October 2026. An apostille from another country should therefore not be assumed to replace the Egyptian authentication route.
Egypt’s official consular-service guidance describes legalization through the issuing country’s authorities and the Egyptian mission, and addresses authentication of originals and translations. Check the instructions of the Egyptian mission handling your document and the receiving authority before proceeding.
Prepare a document checklist
- Confirm the applicant’s complete legal name and address.
- Identify the individual who will sign and the capacity in which they act.
- Agree the representative’s details and the scope of the authority.
- Check whether the intended document concerns filing, renewal or another action.
- Confirm the language, translation and authentication instructions before signing.
Ask the receiving representative to review the proposed wording first. Resolve differences between the company name, signatory details and application data before paying for authentication or arranging delivery.
Plan the document handover
Keep a readable copy for your records and agree who will hold each original. If documents need delivery, record the recipient and tracking information. Ask for confirmation of receipt and identify any remaining items in writing.
Costs and processing time depend on the issuing country, the relevant mission and the documents involved. Obtain current instructions and an itemized estimate rather than relying on a universal fee or turnaround claim.
Arrange a review with IGBS
Tell IGBS where the document will be signed, who the applicant is and which trademark action is planned. Include a proposed document or existing notice if available. Contact IGBS or view our trademark registration service.
