An Egyptian trademark application needs a clear record of the applicant, the mark and the goods or services concerned. Understanding the stages helps your business distinguish an application receipt from an acceptance notice or registration certificate, and keep the right documents available for each next step.
Prepare the application
The implementing regulations address applicant details, the mark, product classes, agent authorization and Arabic translations of foreign-language supporting documents. See Articles 71–72 of the implementing regulations in WIPO Lex. Confirm the current forms and submission requirements before filing.
- Agree the applicant’s exact legal name.
- Prepare the version of the mark you intend to file.
- Describe the products or services clearly.
- Identify any earlier application or existing registration.
- Agree who will receive and review official correspondence.
Understand the stages
Law 82/2002 provides for examination, publication of acceptance, opposition and registration. Article 80 allows a written opposition within 60 days of publication; Articles 83–84 address registration and the certificate. These are distinct stages, not one approval. See the law text hosted by WIPO Lex.
Keep the filing receipt and every later notice in chronological order. If the office requests a change or issues a decision, record when the notice was received and arrange a prompt review of the response required.
Check the latest filing channel
Law No. 163 of 2023 established the Egyptian Intellectual Property Authority. Confirm the current submission channel and office instructions for your application instead of relying on an older office address or portal link.
Plan costs and follow-up
Ask for a quote that separates official charges, professional fees and any document or translation work. Request a description of what the quote covers and which additional steps would be quoted separately.
The overall processing time can vary. Use the actual application record and current office communication to plan follow-up rather than treating a fixed month-by-month schedule as a guarantee.
Ask IGBS to review your filing needs
Share the mark, applicant details, products or services, and any previous filing information. For an existing application, include the application number and latest notice. Contact IGBS or view our trademark registration service.
